Four World Championship medalists, including a pair of California World Champions, highlighted the third day of boxing action at the 2019 Last Chance Qualifier in Oxnard, Calif.
Two-time World Champion Marc Castro (Fresno, Calif.) and 2018 Youth World Champion Iyana Verduzco (Los Angeles, Calif.) represented their home state in dominating fashion to advance to the next stage of competition. 2016 Youth World Champion Delante Johnson (Cleveland, Ohio) and 2019 Elite Women’s World Championships bronze medalists Mikiah Kreps (Niagrara Falls, N.Y.) both picked up their own victories in the evening session to move forward in the final event of the Trials Qualifying series.
The day got started with the second day of competition in the National PAL Championships, which served as the semifinals for numerous divisions. Tomorrow will be the first day of crowning champions, beginning at 12:00 p.m. PT.
46 other elite boxers joined the four World Championship medalists to live another day and continue their journey to punching their tickets to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing this December in Lake Charles, La. Only 2 spots remain per Olympic weight class, and will be determined later this week.
