USA Boxing will take the 2019 edition of the Eastern Elite Qualifier & Regional Open Championships to the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio.

This year’s tournament will take place Oct. 5-12, and will serve as the third Trials Qualifying event for elite boxers who are looking to qualify to the 2020 Olympic Trials for Boxing this December.

“We are very excited to welcome the 2019 USA Boxing Eastern Elite Qualifier and Regional Open boxers and fans to our venue in October,” said Greater Columbus Convention Center General Manager John R. Page. “We look forward to the arrival of the 800 boxers traveling to Columbus from throughout the country to compete, ranging from youth boxers to the Elite

athletes intending to qualify for the Olympic Trials in December.”

The state of Ohio has produced numerous Olympians, including Tim Austin (1992), Charles Conwell (2016), Larry Donald (1992), Wilbert McClure (1960), Leo Randolph (1976), Rau’shee Warren (2004, 2008, 2012), Raynell Williams (2008) and Ricardo Williams (2000).

“Columbus is honored to host the 2019 USA Boxing Eastern Elite Qualifier and Regional Open,” said Linda Logan, executive director of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission. “Columbus has a rich boxing history and we’re thrilled to host the next generation of boxing champions.”

“When selecting a city to host a national tournament, we look at which city will best accommodate membership needs,” stated USA Boxing Executive Director Mike McAtee. “Geography and accessibility were selling points for the city of Columbus. 10% of all USA Boxing membership live within a 200-mile radius of the city, which will make it easily accessible.”

More information for the tournament will be released in the coming months.
