In honor of Olympic Day 2019, USA Boxing will have multiple Olympic Day celebrations throughout the 2019 National Junior Olympics, Prep Nationals and Youth Open in Madison, Wisc., June 23-30.
A USA Boxing Alumni Association National Junior Olympics kickoff gathering on Sunday, June 23 from 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. at the Madison Marriott West will begin the celebrations. The event will honor Israel Acosta, who has been part of multiple World Championships, Pan American Games and Olympic Games coaching staffs, with a Lifetime Achievement Award. The events will continue with a meet and greet with 2016 Olympian and current Top Rank professional boxer, Mikaela Mayer. Mayer will be available for autographs and pictures on Monday, June 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m, at the Madison Marriott West.
The week-long Olympic Day celebrations will conclude with Team USA captains and 2020 Tokyo Olympic hopefuls Virginia Fuchs and Richard Torrez Jr., as well as USA Boxing Junior and Youth National Coach and 2016 Olympic Coach Augie Sanchez, leading the high performance orientation workouts for boxers competing at the tournament on Friday and Saturday. The workouts will take place in the workout space that will be provided throughout the tournament by USA Boxing. Fuchs, Sanchez and Torrez will also be medal presenters for the winners in the Junior Olympic age divisions.
