Final Preparation for Team USA's First International Tournament of 2019 Begins This Week

Members of USA Boxing’s Elite High Performance Squad will return today to the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. for a two-week training camp before heading to Sofia, Bulgaria for their first international tournament of 2019, the Strandja Tournament.


Team USA will send a total of 26 boxers to the tournament, one of the largest delegations sent to an international tournament in the history of USA Boxing. The training camp is under the guidance of USA Boxing Head Coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and National Assistant Coach Kay Koroma (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Ra’sheen Ali (Cleveland, Ohio), Tim Back (Cincinnati, Ohio), Sharron Baker (Philadelphia, Pa.), Kevin Benford (Cincinnati, Ohio), Joe Bermudez (Lansing, Mich.), Joe Guzman (Fountain, Colo.), Jon La Plant (St. Cloud, Minn.) and Christine Lopez (Rowlett, Texas) are serving on the coaching staff for the duration of the training camp.


Joining the 26 boxers in training camp are six training partners, including 2018 Youth World Championships bronze medalist Isamary Aquino (San Antonio, Texas), 2018 Elite National Champion Ravven Brown (San Antonio, Texas), 2018 Elite National Championships bronze medalist Delante Johnson (Cleveland, Ohio), former USA Boxing Team captain Quinton Randall (Katy, Texas), 2018 Elite National Championships competitor Enmanuel Rojas (Las Vegas, Nev.) and 2018 Youth World Champion Asa Stevens (Waianae, Hawaii).
