With 2020 just around the corner, we wanted to give you all a closer look at some things to get excited for next year!

Final Olympic Qualification Team Selection Process

2020 will start off in full swing as the 26 boxers, as well as Richard Torrez Jr., will return to Colorado Springs, Colo. on Jan. 2 for the final Olympic Qualification Team selection process for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. A box-off, multination camp and international tournament will round out the evaluation process to determine the 13 boxers who will represent Team USA at the upcoming international Olympic qualification tournaments. Be sure to follow USA Boxing on social media, as well as at usaboxing.org to stay updated on the process!

International Olympic Qualifier Tournaments

Team USA boxers will have two opportunities to punch their tickets to Tokyo, with the first being the Americas Qualifier in Buenos Aires, Argentina in March. Boxers must finish a certain ranking to advance to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. If they do not reach that ranking, they will have one more chance in Paris, France in May at the final World Qualifier.

USA Boxing Returns to Reno

The first national tournament of 2020 returns to Reno for the 2020 Western Elite Qualifier and Regional Open. This tournament will be the start for the Olympic Games Paris 2024 cycle. This tournament will clinch spots for elite boxers to the 2020 USA Boxing Elite National Championships, which will determine the 2021 High Performance Teams. Reno will also hold the 2020 USA Boxing Master’s National Championships; the second time USA Boxing has hosted a national master’s tournament. This tournament will be the first ranking points tournament for master’s boxers, and more information about both events will be released in the coming weeks.

LBC Workshop

Following the success of our 2018 workshops, USA Boxing will be hosting our second LBC Workshop in conjunction with our events in Reno for newly elected LBC Presidents, Treasurers and Chiefs of Officials! The workshop will be educations and informative. We look forward to hosting these committed members that want to help grow grassroots boxing!

Bronze Level Clinics to LBCs

The new bronze level clinics will branch out from our national tournaments to different LBCs throughout 2020. The first LBC clinic will be held Feb. 15-16 in El Paso, Texas, with more to be announced throughout the year. USA Boxing will also be hosting one in Reno, Nev., March 21-22. More information about the bronze level clinics can be found here.

Junior and Youth International Competitions

With a mixture of returning team members, as well as a few new faces, the 2020 Junior and Youth High Performance teams look to be strong and ready for success in 2020. All 4 teams are scheduled to attend an international tournament, with a possible Youth World Championships later in 2020. We look forward to seeing their growth through the year, as many will be age eligible for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

49th Annual National Junior Olympics

Heading into its 49th year, the National Junior Olympics has become a tradition for USA Boxing to showcase our next generation of champions on a national stage. With the official announcement of the location being released soon, USA Boxing is expecting another record breaking attendance, as the boxers taking to the ring could be our future Olympians in 2024 and 2028.

Olympic Games Tokyo 2020

The world will come together again in Tokyo, Japan this summer for the Olympic Games. Tokyo hosted the Summer Olympic Games in 1964, where Team USA won 4 medals, 1 gold and 3 bronze. With Head Coach Billy Walsh having led the team for a full quad since the Rio Olympic Games, Team USA has their sights on improving on the 3-medal performance in 2016.

Eastern Elite Qualifier & National Championships

The search for the home of the final two National tournaments of 2020 for USA Boxing is still underway but expect to hear an announcement in early 2020 of where the Eastern Elite Qualifier and the National Championships will be held! The Eastern Elite Qualifier will give elite boxers the chance to punch their ticket to the National Championships, which will determine USA Boxing’s High Performance Teams for 2021.

Record Membership Numbers

USA Boxing membership numbers have continued to increase during this quad, with reaching over 48,000 members in 2019. With an upward trend, USA Boxing is hoping to see our membership numbers hit 50,000+, which would be a record high!
