Heaven Garcia Wins Bronze at Youth Olympics

Oct. 18, 2018, 3:56 p.m. (ET)

Flyweight Heaven Garcia (El Monte, Calif.) concluded her successful youth career by winning the bronze medal at the Summer Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 over Goryana Stoeva of Bulgaria.

Garcia, who won the 2015 Junior World Championships and 2018 Youth World Championships, entered the ring with fire in her eyes after falling short of advancing to the championship bout of these Youth Olympics. Using her experience and quickness, Heaven put on an impressive show for the crowded Oceania Pavilion in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The final results included all five judges giving the bout to Garcia to add her third international medal of 2018 to her gold medals at this year’s Youth Continental Championships and Youth World Championships.

Boxing concluded today at this year’s edition of the Youth Olympic Games. Garcia was joined throughout the tournament with her teammates Otha Jones III (Toledo, Ohio) and Roma Martinez (Houston, Texas), as well as Augie Sanchez (Las Vegas, Nev.), USA Boxing’s National Junior and Youth Head Coach.
