Second Day of 2018 Western Elite Qualifier and Regional Open is Action Packed

March 07, 2018, 11:35 p.m. (ET)

Day two of the 2018 Western Elite Qualifier and Regional Open at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M. continued the excitement of the opening day.

Nearly 300 boxers stepping into the ring to continue their quest of reaching to their respective championship bouts.  The prep and youth divisions kicked off the day once again with over 80 bouts taking place before the junior and elite divisions closed out the exciting day.

The first of two qualifiers, the Western Elite Qualifier and Regional Open Championship allows the opportunity for the top two elite boxers to secure their berth in December’s National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, while the younger divisions will earn national ranking points. The elites that do not punch their ticket here in Albuquerque will have one last opportunity at the Eastern Elite Qualifier and Regional Open later this year.

More than 750 boxers made the trek to New Mexico for a shot at competing on the national stage. While the tournament allowed only the elite division to qualify for Salt Lake City, USA Boxing wanted to give athletes in all age divisions the opportunity to continue to build their boxing resume. Action will resume with a noon and 6:00 pm session on Thursday, March 8.

All the action is available to watch online via the live stream here. Tickets are available for purchase for Saturday evenings championship bouts for $10.00
