Finale of 2018 National Junior Championships Awards 62 Champions

The final day of the 2018 National Junior Olympics, Prep Nationals and Youth Open crowned 62 new champions after the week-long tournament at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, W.Va.

The Pee-Wee 9-10 boxers began the exciting day of boxing, before the bantam, intermediate and junior male boxers stepped into the ring to duke it out for their national title. The day concluded with the championship bouts for the Youth Open.

At the conclusion of the event, Curmel Moton of Region 14 was named the Outstanding Male Bantam Boxer of the tournament, Bobbie Pettigrew of Region 1 won Outstanding Male Intermediate Boxer of the tournament and Trinidad Vargas of Region 8 was awarded the Outstanding Male Junior Boxer of the tournament.

Receiving the overall region gold was Region 8 Texas, which consist of the local boxing committees of Border, Gulf, Southwestern, South Texas and West Texas. The silver went to Region 3, Southeast Coast. The LBC’s of that region are Florida, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia North Carolina and South Carolina. The bronze went to Region 1, Northeast, which is comprised of Adirondack, Connecticut, Metropolitan, New England, New Jersey and Niagara.

This year marked the 47th edition of the National Junior Olympics, which returned to West Virginia for the fourth time in five years.This year’s edition marked the fourth year the Prep National Championships have been a part of the Junior Olympics, and the third year the Youth Open has been contested during this tournament.
