2017 World Championship silver medalist Duke Ragan (Cincinnati, Ohio) got redemption over Ilyas Suleimenov of Kazakhstan from earlier this year to advance to the finals of the 2018 President’s Cup in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The two boxers met earlier this year at the semifinals of the Feliks Stamm Tournament in Warsaw, Poland. However, Ragan would not let history repeat itself, as he took a 3-2 split decision victory over Suleimenov to end his tournament run.

Ragan will step into the ring in tomorrow’s championship bout for a rematch against Kazakhstan’s Kairat Yeraliyev. Ragan and Yeraliyev met in the finale of last year’s Elite World Championships in Hamburg, Germany. Yeraliyev took the close 3-2 split decision, leaving Ragan with the silver medal.

USA Boxing head coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) has been leading the American delegation at the tournament, with Marc Gargaro (Newton, Mass.) and Joe Guzman (Fountain, Colo.) serving as assistant coaches.
