Championship Bouts Highlight Fourth Day; Elite and Youth Finalist Set at 2018 National Championships

Dec. 07, 2018, 8:18 p.m. (ET)

After four intense days of boxing, 48 national champions were crowned, while the field to compete in tomorrow’s youth and elite championship bouts were set at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The junior championship bouts were a highlight of today’s boxing action, as 22 male and female boxers not only earned a national title, but earned their spot on Team USA’s High Performance Team. Having a spot on this team allows them to attend training camps in Colorado Springs, Colo. at the United States Olympic Training Center, as well as potentially represent Team USA in international competition next year.

Another highlight of today were the remaining semifinal bouts for the youth and elite boxers. The winners of today’s session will step into the ring one more time to clinch a national title during tomorrow’s lone session beginning at 5:30 p.m. MST.

Also, the elite boxers that boxed today in Olympic weight classes, and were victorious, punched their ticket to the 2020 Olympic Trials for Boxing, which will take place next December.
