Dec. 08, 2017, 7:43 p.m. (ET)

The fourth day of the 2017 USA Boxing Elite and Youth National Championships & Junior and Prep Open brought plenty of action and excitement to the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The day started with the final four championship bouts for the bantam and intermediate divisions, which went to Keith Jordan (San Francisco, Calif.), Steven Navarro (Los Angeles, Calif.), Patrick O’Connor (Foxborough, Mass., )Mason Vela (Laredo, Texas),. The day also crowned all junior female champions and five junior male champions. The remaining five junior male champions will be determined during tomorrow’s 5:00 p.m. session.

Today’s session also finalized the field for the youth male and female championship bouts, as well as the 20 elite men who will box to become the 2017 USA Elite Men’s National Champion. Each of the semifinal elite bouts did not disappoint the crowd.

One of the most highly anticipated matchups of the session was two time World Champion Marc Castro (Fresno, Calif.) against 2017 Elite Men’s World Championship silver medalist and reigning elite national champion Duke Ragan (Cincinnati, Ohio). Castro was able to hold off Ragan to take the judges card and his first elite national title.

Another matchup that gave the crowd an exciting display of great boxing was 2016 Youth World Champion Delante Johnson (Cleveland, Ohio) and 2017 Elite Men’s World Championships bronze medalist Freudis Rojas Jr. (Las Vegas, Nev.). Both teammates of the 2016 Youth World Championship team and 2017 Elite World Championship team saw their first ever matchup in the ring with Johnson advancing to tomorrow’s finals.

Tomorrow’s finale will begin at 5:00 p.m. tomorrow and bout sheets can be found here. The championships will close out the week long tournament that brought over 600 boxers looking to claim a national title. The junior, youth and elite division champions will become members of Team USA's High Performance Squad, allowing them the opportunity to attend nation team training camps and represent our country in international competition.

Full results will be posted soon.
