2019 USA Boxing Youth National Champions and Junior Open Concludes

The 2019 USA Boxing Youth National Championships and Junior Open concluded this evening at the Lake Charles Civic Center in Lake Charles, La. with the crowning of 31 National Champions. 

The night got started with the junior male boxers taking to one of two rings to cap off the week-long event in exciting fashion. With the majority of the 2019 Junior High Performance Team aging into the youth division, the boxers that were victorious in international weight divisions earned their spot onto their first high performance team. 

The boxers will have the opportunity to attend high performance training camps at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., as well as represent Team USA in international competition. 

After short intermission, the night concluded with the youth female and male championship bouts. Numerous members of the 2019 Youth High Performance team earned their spot back onto Team USA, as well as boxers making the jump from junior to youth High Performance team. 

At the conclusion of the night the Most Outstanding Junior and Youth Boxers were announced with Chantel Navarro (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Steven Navarro (Los Angeles, Calif.) earning the junior honors, while Shera Mae Patricio (Waianae, Hawaii) and Joel Iriarte (Bakersfield, Calif.) taking the awards in the youth division.

Boxing will continue tomorrow with the finals of the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing beginning at 3:00 p.m. CST. Click here to watch the action on NBC Sports Network.
