The USA Boxing Alumni Association announced today that the “Celebration of Ohio Greats” will kick off the 2019 Eastern Elite Qualifier & Regional Open in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, the gathering will feature special guests former undisputed Heavyweight World Champion Buster Douglas, 1984 Olympic Champion Jerry Page, boxing coach Michael Stafford, as well as Darrin Allen and Manning Galloway
“We are excited to bring the USA Boxing Alumni Association to Ohio to honor the state’s rich boxing history,” said Chris Cugliari, USA Boxing Alumni Association Director. “Those able to attend will be able to enjoy the company of boxers, coaches, and others who have given much to Olympic style, amateur boxing in Ohio. We look forward to honoring Ohio legends as a great way to kick off the Eastern Elite Qualifier.”
“The state of Ohio has a great history in the sport of boxing, with numerous amateur champions, Olympians and later professional World Champions from here,” stated Mike McAtee, USA Boxing Executive Director. “Having these alumni help us kick off our third Trials Qualifying event is a great way to inspire all the boxers competing that week.”
The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. and is open to anyone to attend. USA Boxing Alumni members will have a special reserved area where light appetizers will be served, along with a cash bar.
