USA Bobsled/Skeleton partners with GMTM.com to redefine talent identification
Lake Placid, N.Y. (April 6, 2021)–USA Bobsled/Skeleton (USABS) is proud to partner with GMTM.com, “the athlete exposure platform” that enables athletes to connect directly with teams and elite trainers. GMTM.com and USABS are redefining the future of talent identification for the sports of bobsled and skeleton by increasing exposure and engagement opportunities with athletes across the country and across multi-sport arenas.
“USA Bobsled/Skeleton is always on the lookout for the next generation of sliders,” said USABS CEO Aron McGuire. “GMTM.com has created a new and innovative approach through their digital combine to raise awareness of bobsled and skeleton, and the platform provides an opportunity for athletes to try out from the convenience of a local football field, running track, or even their backyard. We have already seen the success of the digital combine with several athletes who are now representing the United States in international competition.”
One of those athletes is Charlie Volker, a 2019 Princeton University graduate that transitioned to bobsled as a two-sport standout on the football field and in track and field. Volker was hoping for a chance to join a training camp with an NFL team. He was a first-team All-Ivy League running back his senior year at Princeton, and he ranks seventh all-time at Princeton in rushing yards. Minicamps were cancelled due to the pandemic, and while one dream was dashed as a result, it opened the door for Volker to learn about bobsled. He submitted his combine on GMTM.com, and the coaches were impressed by his grit and athleticism as he completed the events in the pouring rain. He was invited to a bobsled training camp, and made the USA Bobsled National Team a few months later.
While the pandemic challenged the former method of in-person combine tests, it forced the coaches to seek new and innovative ways to seek talent. The partnership with GMTM.com created that pathway.
“The world of sport and how organizations engage with athletes is changing,” said GMTM.com Co-Founder Connor Dietz. “Our partnership with USABS was founded on innovation and pushing the boundaries to find future medalists from day one. We could not be more proud to continue our pursuit connecting athletes with USABS.”
