USAB Announces Head Coach & Manager for Uber and Thomas Cup Teams

USA Badminton (USAB) is pleased to announce Dennis Christensen as the head coach and Yuko Kawasaski as the team manager for the Pan Am Male & Female Cup 2020 in Salvador de Bahia, Brazil from February 13-16. Dennis and Yuko will be assisted by at least one athlete/coach.

Head Coach Dennis Christensen

Danish-born Dennis Christensen is a professional badminton coach with over 23 years of experience training athletes across Europe and the U.S. In 2014, Christensen relocated to the United States from Europe to establish the region’s premier badminton facility and academy, Badminton NC (BNC), where he currently serves as the head coach. Prior to starting BNC, Christensen worked extensively with European athletes as well as coaches - from developing training programs for the Swiss Badminton Federation to serving as National Coach for the Italian (2000-2001), Swiss (2004-2009) and Swedish (2011-2014) teams, and tournament coach for the Danish National Team. A player’s coach, Christensen believes mistakes make the best teachers. 

Most notably, during his tenure as s National Coach, Christensen helped players in qualification for the Olympic games in Sydney 2000 (Agnese Allegrini/ Maria Louisa Mur), Beijing 2008 (Jeanine Cicognini / Christian Bosiger) and London 2012 (Henri Hurskainen). 

Christensen resides in North Carolina with his wife, Mette, and daughter, Sofia.

Team Manger Yuko Kawasaki

Yuko Kawasaki is excited and honored to accept the responsibility as Team USA manager. Yuko will bring her past experience as the Para Badminton Team Manager for the 2019 Para Pan Am Games in Peru and two Para World Championships, as well as her registered nursing background to support the team. Yuko's experience in badminton includes directing tournaments, working as a national classification specialist for Para Badminton, a bit of officiating, coaching Para Badminton, and qualifying for the 2017 World BWF Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.



The Badminton Pan Am Male & Female Cup 2020 will be held from February 13 to 16 in Salvador – Bahia, Brazil. The Pan American Center of Judo will host the events featuring the best players in the region. The men’s event will have six teams fighting for the gold: Brazil, Canada, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and the United States. The women’s event will feature seven teams: Brazil, Canada, Falkland Islands, Guatemala, Mexico, Peru and the United States.

This event will award world ranking points as a Continental Team Event and is qualifying for the Thomas and Uber Cup finals, which will be played in May in Denmark, where the best male and female teams compete for the crown.
