Technical Officials Corner: Kishore Subramanyam

Sept. 10, 2019, 2:20 p.m. (ET)

Starting April 2019 USA Badminton (USAB) will recognize a Technical Official every month. Technical Officials (TOs) are an important group of experts who play a critical role in the development of the game.

For September 2019, USA Badminton would like to recognize Kishore Subramanyam, who started officiating a year ago because he wanted to try to understand and be good at all technical official roles.

USAB had the chance to speak with Kishore recently who had just returned from line judging at the World Championship, “It was great being able to witness the best players in action and being part of it,” said Kishore. “Even more rewarding was to witness and be part of the para categories and the amazing things they can do despite their challenges. It was inspirational.”

Kishore says his favorite part about being a technical official is that he likes the energy at a tournament and being part of it. “I also get to meet my peers from all over the world and get to know them.”

Kishore tries to visit a new country every year and a place where he doesn’t know the language. “Then I challenge myself to learn at least some basics of the language prior to the visit and be able to somehow communicate.”

Somethings you might not know about Kishore is that he has done sky diving, class V whitewater rafting, and held a private pilot license.

Congratulations Kishore!
