The USAB Junior team opened Day Three at the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships in Kazan, with a morning practice to work on strategy, consistency and different partnerships.

The practice paid off when the U.S. defeated Slovakia, 3-2, on Wednesday afternoon. The match started with mixed doubles, with Jacob Zhang and Jessie Wang. The duo played well but according to coach Andy Chong, lacked consistency and accuracy and lost in three games. Next, Natalie Chi earned the U.S. it's first point with a comfortable win in girls singles in two games. Alex Zheng played next in boys singles and lost in three close games, which gave Slovakia a 2-1 lead in the match.

But the U.S. came back strong in girls doubles and boys doubles to win the match. Katelin Ngo and Esther Shi  won comfortably in two games in girls doubles, while Joshua Yuan and William Hu controlled their match and won in two games, even though there were some long and intense rallies.

The team will once again practice tomorrow morning, have lunch and get ready mentally for the competition against Scotland at 1 pm local time.
