Semifinals begin Saturday at 2019 YONEX U.S. Open, Catch all the action live on NBCSports

There were upsets abound on Friday at the 2019 YONEX U.S. Open in Fullerton, California, but now the semifinals are set in each of the five disciplines.

Men’s Singles
Last year’s U.S. Open champion and the No. 1 seed, Lee Dong Keun, lost in the quarterfinals to Lin Chun-Yi (Taipei), 21-12, 21-14, as did No. 2 seed Prannoy H.S. to Sourabh Verma (India), 21-19, 23-21.
Chun-Yi will face fellow countryman Lin Yu Hsien in the semifinals, while Verma will take on Tanongsak Saesombooksuk (Thailand). 

Women’s Singles
Women’s singles has been the outlier in this year’s U.S. Open as three of the four remaining players were seeded entries.
Top-seeded Michelle Li (Canada) will take on No. 3 seed Kim Ga Eun (Korea) in the first semifinal Saturday. On the other side of the bracket, No. 6 seed Ayumi Mine (Japan) will play the Wang Zhi Yi (China), who advanced to the main draw after winning in the qualifying draw.

Men’s Doubles
The Japanese duo of Hiroki Okamura/Masayuki Onodera continued winning as they defeated the English tandem of Ben Lan/Sean Vendy, 15-21, 21-15, 21-16,  to advance to the semifinals. They’ll face Ko Sung Hyun/Shin Baek Cheol (Korea) in the semifinals. The top seed remaining in men’s doubles, No. 2 seed Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin (Taipei) advanced and they will now face Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong (Korea).

Women’s Doubles
As in women’s singles, the top seed of Nami Matsuyama/Chiharu Shida (Japan) advanced in the tournament after defeating No. 5 seed Chang Ye Na/Kim Hye Rin (Korea), 21-16, 21-15. They will face the Chinese team of Chen Xiao Fei/Zhang Shu Xian. The other side of the bracket will feature a matchup Baek Ha Na/Jung Kyung Eun (Korea) vs. Cheng Chi Ya/Lee Chih Chen (Taipei). 

Mixed Doubles
The No. 2 seed, Marvin Seidel/Linda Efler (Germany), lost to the Taipei duo of Yang Po-Hsuan/Hu Ling Fang, 19-21, 21-10, 21-15. The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds, Ben Lane/Jessica Pugh (England) and Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue (France) advanced to the semifinals.
