NE COLEMAN CUP TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

5 Teams (DC/VA/MD, MA, PA, NY and NJ) will Compete for the Coleman Cup and 9 Teams will compete for the Division B Championship

So many of the world’s top players (China, Denmark, India, Malaysian, England, Indonesia) come from countries with Premier badminton leagues.  This is an attempt of the Northeast Badminton Association to sow the seeds of one in the USA.

A message from former USAB BOD and JAG Chairman Frederick Coleman:

To my friends and fellow players at the Inaugural Coleman Cup Team Tournament of the Northeast Badminton Association

Thank You on behalf of me and my family for the Honor of having a Competition Cup in the Coleman name. I have loved, played and served Badminton as a sport for 35 years. As you all know, I value Team Competition as it brings out some of the best comradery and competition that our sport has. I have encouraged the development of Team play at Junior, Adult, Elite and Master levels.

The only reason I am not with you today, to at least present the cup, or compete if possible, is that my life post National Badminton work is even busier. I am now involved in a variety of Refugee Mental Health Projects, and International Mental Health Development Projects. While the tournament is going on, I will be in Vietnam and Cambodia.

Best wishes to all competitors. Play On Round robin format will be used for the 5 Division A teams. While there are a few crossover members from other states to complete some teams, it is the goal of NEBA to do away with it as the Region develops more competitive players.  Division B format is pool play followed by playoffs.  There will be 3 pools of 3 teams each.  Top two of each pool will qualify for the Tri Finals and the three winners will compete for the B Championship in a round robin format.  Division B teams include: 2 teams each from Club 28 PA and Boston Badminton MA, three teams from NJBC and 2 teams from a mix of badminton friends from NJ, NY and PA.  Division B competition will start at 8:30 am on Feb 9 and Division A will start at 2 pm.
