USA Badminton (USAB) is excited to announce the elevation of Ben Lee to Board of Directors Chair and the appointment of Nibu Paul as its new Coaching Director.

Lee, who was elected to USAB’s Board of Directors as an At-Large position in 2017, is taking over for David Simon. An Olympian at the 1992 Barcelona Games and the US head coach at the 2012 London Games, Lee is a nine-time US Men’s Doubles Champion and has been inducted into the US Badminton Walk of Fame. Lee’s term as Board Chair will run until 2020, when he is eligible for another four-year term. For full bio information on Ben Lee, click here.

“Ben brings a lot of experience to the table being an Olympian, a coach, and club owner,” said USAB CEO Jeff Dyrek. “I look forward to working with him on taking USAB to the next level and developing ways to grow the sport of badminton.”

Paul is filling a vacancy on the Board of Directors left by Carl Khor, who made the difficult decision to step down to commit time to other professional activities. Paul’s term will run through 2020 and is eligible for re-election for an additional four-year term. In his role, Paul will serve on the USAB Board of Directors, provide guidance toward achieving USAB’s strategic plan and long-term coaching objectives, provide input and advice on coaching related procedures and issues, and represent the interests of USAB coaches.

Paul is a certified HP-1 coach who has served as a coach for more than 15 years, serving multiple badminton gyms in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth metro area. He currently serves as a coach at Frisco Badminton, a badminton consultant and a tournament director. Currently, Paul is a Technology Manager at a large financial institution in Plano, Texas, where he oversees more than 15 developers on multiple technology platforms.

“I am excited and eager to join this accomplished and competent group of people,” said Paul. “Badminton is a way of life and a passion for me and a chance to serve and give back to the badminton community is a dream come true. I promise and assure that I will operate to the best of my ability in making Badminton and coaching a better experience here in the USA.”

After reviewing the candidates submitted to the Nominating and Governance Committee, it was determined only Paul met the requirements for the position and an election was not required. The Nominating and Governance Committee and Ethics and Judicial Committee vetted and approved Paul, who was subjected to multiple levels of background checks. Paul has also completed all SafeSport training requirements outlined by USAB.
