On Thursday, February 14, ten U.S. athletes will begin play in Lima, Peru, for the XXIII Pan Am Mixed Team Continental Championships 2019.

The United States is seeking its second Pan Am Mixed Team title and is looking for redemption after finishing third in the last Pan Am Mixed Team event. Our neighbors to the north, Canada, have won the last ten Mixed Team Championships.

The tournament, which will be held at the Centro de Alto Rendimiento La Videna, features teams from 11 nations: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, the U.S., and the host Peru.

The format for the tournament is five matches per team match (MS, WS, MD, WD, XD). During group play, all five matches must be completed. Once the teams have advanced to the knock out stage, the first team to win three matches will advance.

The U.S. team will consist of 2016 Rio Olympian Phillip Chew and 2018 Youth Olympian Jennie Gai, along with Ryan Chew, Timothy Lam, Andrew Zhang, Noel Carino, Kuei Ya Chen, Katherine Tor, Breanna Chi and Natalie Chi. Don Chew will coach the U.S. team.

The draw for the tournament will be announced following the Team Managers meeting on Wednesday, February 13.

The Championships will be broadcast live on the Badminton Pan Am YouTube channel. Click HERE to watch.
