2018 YONEX Junior Nationals Begins Thursday

June 28, 2018, 11:10 a.m. (ET)
The 2018 YONEX Junior National Badminton Championships start on Thursday, June 28 at the Wisconsin Center in downtown Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Nearly 500 of the nation’s best youth badminton players will vie for one of the titles of Junior National Champion, the largest field in the history of the tournament.

The Junior National Championships is USAB’s highest-ranking junior tournament. It carries the heaviest weight for those elite junior players who wish to qualify for Junior International Trials to have a chance to be selected as part of the U.S. Junior Team to compete at the Junior Pan Am Championships and World Junior Championships.

The six-day event runs through July 3, with five age divisions (under-11, under-13, under-15, under-17, under-19) playing in all five badminton events, boy’s and girl’s singles, boy’s and girl’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Players may enter a maximum of three events: one singles event, one doubles event and one mixed doubles event. The events must be in the same age group or span only two age groups, however, points earned playing in age group will not be applied to the player’s true age group point total.

The Wisconsin Center will have courts set up in Hall D of the convention center, including Olympic-level badminton mats on top of the sports courts. Tournament-grade YONEX shuttles will be used throughout the tournament.

Built in 1998, the Wisconsin Center has over 188,000 square feet of exhibit space. Located at the corner of 4th street and Wisconsin Avenue, it’s in the heart of downtown Milwaukee and within walking distance to the Milwaukee Public Museum, historic Riverwalk, and over 150 restaurants. Across the street, the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee will be the host hotel and is connected to the venue by a Skywalk.

Tickets to attend the Junior National Championships are available at the door for $20, cash only.
