USA Badminton announced today that the 2018 YONEX Junior National Championships, which will be played from June 27 to July 3, will be moved from Aurora, Illinois, to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we believed it was in the best interest of our members to find a new location,” said USAB CEO Jeff Dyrek. “We felt it was important to keep the tournament in the Midwest and think Milwaukee will be a great location. We’d like to thank the Aurora community for their support and we look forward to exploring how we might be able to work together in the future.”

The Wisconsin Center will play host to the Championships. Built in 1998, the Wisconsin Center has over 188,000 square feet of exhibit space. Located at the corner of 4th street and Wisconsin Avenue, it’s in the heart of downtown Milwaukee and within walking distance to the Milwaukee Public Museum, historic Riverwalk, and over 150 restaurants. Across the street, the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee will be the host hotel and is connected to the venue by a Skywalk.

The Junior National Championships annually draws more than 400 participants from across the United States and is USAB’s highest-ranking junior tournament. It carries the heaviest weight for those elite junior players who wish to qualify for Junior International Trials to have a chance to be selected as part of the U.S. Junior Team to compete at the Junior Pan Am Championships and World Junior Championships.

The event website will be available next week, outlining the travel and other basic event information.
