Premier Badminton League: Mumbai Rockets and Beiwen Defeat Awadhe

Beiwen Zhang started hot, but couldn’t hold out against the No. 10 Saina Nehwal in a Premier Badminton League matchup between the Mumbai Rockets and the Awadhe Warriors.

The Rockets won the team match, 3-2 (4-1 in points).

Beiwen used the entire court early with a barrage of cross-court drops and smashes to take the first game, 15-8.

The second game started with the same tune as Beiwen jumped to a 4-1 lead. From there, Saina composed herself and took 14 of the last 20 points and subsequently the second game, 15-10. Beiwen saved three match points in the third game, but came up short 13-15.

With the loss, Beiwen falls to 0-4 all time against the 2012 Olympic medalist.

The win gave Mumbai four points, which took them from eighth place to fifth with 10 points - two behind Awadhe for first.

The Mumbai Rockets face the Ahmedabab Smash Masters in their next matchup January 9th in Chennai, India.
