Jamie Subandhi, 2018 Pan Am Continental Championships

The United States came up just short in the championship matches of the Male and Female Pan Am Team Continental Championships 2018 in Trinidad and Tobago. Both the Thomas and Uber Cup teams fell to Canada, 3-0, in the title matches.

The Uber Cup team played a tightly contested match, but ultimately fell to the Canadians. WS1 Jamie Subandhi won her opening game against Michelle Li, 21-19, but dropped games two and three, 14-2, 9-21. The game won by Subandhi was the lone game victory by the U.S. The women's team hadn't dropped a single game in the three matches leading up to the championship.

The Thomas Cup team battled valiantly but was bested by Team Canada. Already down 2-0, the MD1 tandem of Phillip Chew and Sattawat Pongnairat played in the closest and longest match, but fell 18-21, 18-21, in 36 minutes.

Canada will represent the continent in the next TOTAL BWF Thomas and Uber Cup Finals 2018, which will be played in Bangkok, Thailand, from May 20-27. Denmark, Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, China, South Korea, Malaysia, Algeria, England, Germany, France, Russia, Chinese Taipei, Japan, India, and now, Canada, will dispute the Thomas Cup. While China, Thailand, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei, Maurituis, Denmark, Germany, Russia, Spain, India, Malaysia and Hong Kong will compete, with Canada, for the Uber Cup.
