Zero Gravity Badminton Takes Flight

In an effort to get in on the Olympic action (albeit Summer not Winter) Russia, Japan, and American space agencies competed in an epic one-match friendly winner takes all contest of space badminton on the International Space Station.

At 250 miles above Earth and traveling 17,000 mph in orbit, Russians Alexander Misurkin, Anton Shkaplerov, JAXA astronaut Norishige Kanai, and NASA Mark T. Vande Hei used the zero-gravity (space) shuttle to practice some backhands, slow motion smashes, and 360-degree acrobatics in space’s first ever badminton game.
