Ruhi Raju Wins Silver in Kazakhstan International Junior

14-Year-Old RUHI RAJU SECURED SILVER MEDAL at APACS Kazakhstan International Junior U19

October 25th: 14-year-old Ruhi Raju of Menlo Park, CA secured a silver medal in the 2017 APACS Kazakhstan International Junior U-19 in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.

In the First two rounds, Ruhi breezed past her opponents in straight sets against local Kazakhstan players.

In the Quarterfinals, Raju faced No. 8 seed Aisha Zhumabek of Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan’s No. 2 U-19 athlete). Raju showcased her skill and dismissed her is two sets 21-13, 21-18.

In the Semifinals, as one of the youngest players in the field, Ruhi was up against 18-year-old No. 2 Alina Romanko of Russia. Ruhi mixed caution with aggressive-game-style and upset her opponent’s rhythm to beat her 21-17,21-17 in 28 minutes.

In the Finals she was up against No. 1 seed Anastasiia Pustinskaia and world junior No. 32 from Russia. The match lasted for 45 min Ruhi went down fighting in straight sets 14-21, 14-21.

Round 1: Defeated Aizhan Kuztayeva 21-6, 21-7

Round 2: Defeated Meruert Akhmadieva 21-7, 21-8

Quarterfinals: Defeated Aisha Zhumabek [8] 21-13, 21-18

Semifinals: Defeated Alina Romanko [2] 21-17,21-17

Finals: Lost to Anastasiia Pustinskaia [1] 14-21, 14-21
