Ben Lee Joins USA Badminton's Board of Directors

ANAHEIM, Calif. California (October 16, 2017) – USA Badminton announced today that Ben Lee, a former U.S. Badminton Olympian, has been elected to USAB’s Board of Directors and will fill a vacant At-Large position. His term will run until 2020.

Lee was a US Olympian in the initial games that featured badminton, the 1992 Barcelona Games. He was a nine-time US Men’s Doubles Champion and two-time USOC Badminton Athlete of the Year. For his accomplishments, Lee was inducted into the US Badminton Walk of Fame. After retiring in 1994, Lee moved on to coaching top US players, including the head coach for the US at the 2012 London Olympics.

“Ben has played important roles in the U.S. badminton community for decades,” said David Simon, USAB Board Chair. “His experience, ranging from the grass roots to international competition, will be a significant asset to our board of directors.”

“Ben will be an asset to the Board for USA Badminton,” said USAB CEO Jeff Dyrek. “His accomplishments on the court are tremendous and his commitment to badminton is second to none.”

Following his time as an international athlete, Lee was the General Manager of Asby Sports and the Marketing Director of Sheikh Shoes. He then spent 15 years with the Palo Alto Police Department. He has served on the Board of the Palo Alto Police Officer’s Association and the USAB Athlete Advisory Council. Lee has founded and is the co-owner of Golden Gate Badminton, the Bay Badminton Academy and the Synergy Badminton Academy.

“I’m obviously excited to join the Board,” said Lee. “I am able to bring experience from many different angles, as a coach, a player, parent of a player, former board member and club owner.”

USA Badminton is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Directors are elected for four-year terms. The Board of Directors represents the interests of USAB's memberships, the United States Badminton community and Badminton athletes by providing USAB with policy, guidance and strategic direction.
