2017 US Open Badminton Championships: Main Draw Announced

The world’s best badminton players will compete at the Anaheim Convention Center Arena in Anaheim, CA for the 2017 Yonex U.S. Open Badminton Championships, July 19-23, 2017 for a $120,000 purse.

231 athletes will represent over 30 different countries - including 50 players or teams ranked in the top-50 in the World.

The US Open of Badminton is part of the Badminton World Federation’s (BWF) Grand Prix Gold Series. Competition will include men’s and women’s singles and men’s, women’s and mixed doubles.

American world No. 10 Beiwen Zhang is the top women’s player, followed closely by Japan's No. 18 Aya Ohori.

Last year’s U.S. Open men’s singles champion, world No. 11 Hyun Il Lee, is the top-ranked men’s singles athlete in the tournament.


Gabriela/Stefani Stoeva (Bulgaria) will be the top-ranked women’s doubles pair at world No. 12. They will have stiff competition from No. 23 Olga Morozova/Anastasia Chervyakova of Russia.


Malaysia also boasts the top mixed doubles team in Kian Meng Tan and Pei Jing Lai (No. 10).


The United States has 31 participants in the tournament (the most in the tournament) - including four 2016 Olympians. Japan has the second most athletes with 30 lead by No. 22 MD Takuto Inoue/Yuki Kaneko.


This marks the second straight year that the event will be played in Southern California after being played at the LA Badminton Club last year.
