Beiwen Zhang Wins Silver Medal at Yonex French Open

(October 30, 2016) -- American Beiwen Zhang won the silver medal at the Tonex French Open, a stop on the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Superseries Circuit. It is the best finish by an American on the BWF’s highest level of competition.

Zhang opened with a pair of two-set win’s over Denmark’s Natalia Koch Rohde, Finland’s Nanna Vainio. In the quarterfinals, Zhang upended seventh-ranked Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, 21-16, 13-21, 21-18. Zhang reached the final with a win over China’s ninth-ranked Yu Sun, 21-19, 21-15. In the finals, Zhang fell just short to 11th-ranked Bingjiao He of China, 21-9, 21-9.
