As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rattle the world, the past couple of months have been a very upsetting and difficult time for all of us. We want to extend our best wishes to all our members, member clubs, athletes, technical officials, coaches, sponsors, volunteers and stakeholders.
Following a review of COVID-19 rates, USA Badminton has made the decision to further suspend all USAB Junior and Adult ranking tournaments until, at the earliest, March 1, 2021. USAB may have to extend the suspension further as more information becomes available. However, as we understand this is an extremely stresfull time for everyone, we wanted to provide some clarity for the upcoming months.
When tournaments re-start, USAB will work under the recommendations established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and follow the guidelines established by the states and counties competitions are taking place in. Based on these guidelines, it is likely USAB will have to restrict the number of spectators, allow one parent per player and put in effect other measures to limit occupancy. The office staff and JAG will be working on these temporary changes and will implement the new JRP rules approved by the Board of Directors when tournaments resume.
In addition, we would like to inform you that the Badminton Pan American Confederation (BPAC) has canceled two adult tournaments, the Pan Am Cup and the 2021 Canadian International Challenge that were scheduled to be held in Alberta, Canada in February. At this time, there's no further information on when or if these events will be rescheduled. It is the understanding of USAB that BPAC still intends to hold the Junior Pan Am Championships in July. We hope to hold the JIT and work with JAG to determine timing and other details.
Our hope is that with the updates above, we have provided some clarity and transparency to help our community plan for the resumption of badminton events when the situation allows.
