Sport Performance Track Certification Process

Sport Performance 1 (SP1) - Click Here for How to Attain
The SP Level 1 course is the beginning level of USA Badminton coach certification. This course is an on-line course.  The SP 1 course focuses on group management, lesson organization, safety, and general badminton coaching knowledge.  The course prepared the coach to coach to introduce the beginner and low-intermediate level player how to play.

Course Length: 4 hours (self-learning  and depends on the learner)

Course Cost : $85

For Whom:  For first time coaches including parents, athletes and coaches

Prerequisite:

  • ­Must USAB members in good standing
  • ­Applicants must be 18 years and older
  • ­For first time coaches including parents and athletes
  • ­Have a USAB approved background check on file
  • ­Have completed Safe Sports Training

Benefits:  Qualified to coach in the USAB Junior Nationals and all the ranking tournaments (except the JIT)


Sport Performance 2 (SP2)

The SP 2 course aims at teaching skills to intermediate to advanced youth and adult playing at the recreational level. This course is a face to face course.  The SP 2 course focuses on teaching badminton skills and general badminton coaching knowledge. 

Course Length: 16 hours

Course Cost : $270

Prerequisite:
- Must USAB members in good standing
­- Applicants must be 18 years and older
­- Must have completed USAB SP 1
­- Coaches who are currently coaching as lead/assistant coaches of a non-high performance and/or high performance program** that caters for a single player or a group of players
­- Former and current international players***
­- Have a USAB approved background check on file
­- Have completed Safe Sports Training

Benefits:  Qualified to coach in the USAB Junior Nationals and all the ranking tournaments (except the JIT)

Sport Performance 3 ( SP3) - in development
The SP 3 course aims Introduce & prepare athlete for competition at the intermediate to advanced youth and adult playing at the recreational level. This course is face to face course.  The SP 3 course focuses on developing tactics and general badminton coaching knowledge. 

Course Length: 16 hours

Course Cost : $300

Prerequisite:
­Must USAB members in good standing
Applicants must be 18 years and older

­- Coaches who are currently coaching as lead/assistant coaches of a non-high performance and/or high performance program** that caters for a single player or a group of players

Definitions
High Performance Program*
1. A high performance program is not merely for "star talent." It is about helping athletes reach their full potential. It may also involve collaborating with other individuals who may be experts in certain performance enhancement field or those involved with the athlete which eventually aims ensuring that the athletes perform at their best level. Such a high performance program involves sport specific, mental training, conditioning training, and fitness training which simply aim to improve performance.

2. The high performance program includes organized and systematic plans that involve structured activities on strength training, conditioning and cardiovascular training, sport specific techniques and drills, periodization (devoting specific blocks of time during a given year to different types and intensities of exercise depending on when optimal performance is needed), nutritional advice, mental and psychological training, and constant and consistent accountability and monitoring by a qualified trainer.

International Players**
1.  Current International Players - USAB will consider athletes who competing are currently competing regularly (a minimum of 4 times per year) in BWF sanctioned team events and/or BWF sanctioned individual tournaments as Current International Players.

2.  Former international players - USAB will only former athletes who competed in BWF sanctioned team events and/and BWF sanctioned individual tournaments with a World Ranking of # 20 in the last 10 years .
