Daniela Garmendia has been selected as the 2022 junior national team assistant coach, USA Artistic Swimming announced today. Daniela will bring her enthusiasm and knowledge to the national talent program and prepare the junior squad for FINA Junior World Championships this August with head coach Megan Abarca.

Garmendia is originally from Venezuela and competed internationally as a member of her home country’s national team for many years. In 2013, she moved to the USA to pursue her studies and continue her artistic swimming career. Garmendia swam for Lindenwood University’s collegiate program and, in 2016, made her last appearance representing her country in duet at the Olympic Qualifiers in Rio. She has coached ‘In the Zone Camp’ for five years, developing the sport at the grassroots level across the country. In 2021, she served as the head coach for USAAS’s national Elite Camp.

Garmendia moved to the Northwest in 2017 where she joined Seattle Synchro as an assistant coach for the club's
junior team. In 2019, she served as the assistant coach for USA’s junior national team and was named the head coach of Seattle Synchro that same year.

In her free time Daniela enjoys practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, hiking, and painting with resin.

I am excited to work alongside an experienced coach such as Megan Abarca. It is an honor for me to coach the junior national team for a second time and I cannot wait to help the team reach its full potential this summer,” she said.
