USAAS Concludes a Very Successful 2020 Virtual Convention

By USA Artistic Swimming | Sept. 30, 2020, 12:31 p.m. (ET)

Colorado Springs, CO – Every year as the artistic swimming family prepares to start the next season, the Annual Convention is held. Like everything in 2020, it was different, but USAAS staff and volunteers embraced different and achieved several important items that will improve the organization in the short and long term. At the top of the achievements list is the implementation of 33.3% athlete representation on the Board of Directors and across all designated committees, the establishment of DEI committees and the election of the first DEI Vice President. Those are some of the many highlights, but the real magic of the 2020 Convention happened because of the people involved.

The Convention hosted 45 different Zoom meetings that spanned more than 75 hours of meeting time. Work was done to improve the organizations bylaws, rulebook, coaching system, judges programs and so much more. Our four Zones held multiple meetings to better serve their specific areas of the country, the Board of Governors and Board of Directors came together to improve the sport and the 245 participants exchanged stories, shared a lot of laughs and a few happy tears. We celebrated legends and remembered those that we lost. The new era of USA Artistic Swimming was honored as Senior National Team Coach Andrea Fuentes was named the Coach of the Year and our Senior National Team was named the Team of the Year.

In his organizational address, USA Artistic Swimming CEO, Adam Andrasko stated, “2020 exposed our organization for what we really are. We are remarkable. This year will define USA Artistic Swimming forever.” Throughout the COVID 19 pandemic, the members of USA Artistic Swimming have grown stronger than ever. Led by an incredible group of women that are striving every day to represent the United States of America on the greatest stage and supported by a team of intensely dedicated volunteers. The return to “normal” still has many months ahead, but due to the work of so many prior to, and during the 2020 Convention, there will be no return to “normal” for USA Artistic Swimming. The organization has a new name, a new identity and a revitalization that is real.
