COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Artistic Swimming (USAAS) would like to congratulate MAC Synchro swimmer, Cambell McMillan, for winning the October 2020 Member of the Month.
McMillan was nominated for her teaching and coaching that has been helping younger artistic swimmers from Portland area. The McMillan family lives in a house that has a smaller pool but good enough for practicing skills or portions of routines. The MAC Synchro club pool has been closed since March 17.
We are blown away by how generous McMillan has been with her time this summer, working for free with both Tualatin Hills and MAC 12 and Under, Intermediate and Novice athletes for nearly 3 months. She offered private lessons for most of the summer and some remote stretching zoom sessions for athletes that were not comfortable with in person training.
The response has been wonderful, and many parents said their kids were excited to work with an older swimmer who had been on a national team. For most of these kids it was their only opportunity for water training over the summer.
McMillan wrote an email inviting athletes for free practices and included her bio and experience in the sport, teaching and working with kids. McMillan asked the club first whether this is something she would be allowed to do. The club and coaches appreciated that she asked and were obviously very happy she was willing to do all this work. She said she had a lot of fun during these lessons and learned a lot herself.
McMillan and her family also offered that her teammates come and swim at any time. The junior team was getting together twice a week for practice at the McMillan house.
We are thrilled to honor McMillan in this month’s Member of the Month and congratulate her with a brand-new pair of Blenders Sunglasses! Thank you to our sponsor Blenders Eyewear for supporting USAAS Member of the Month. Nominations for November Member of the Month will be open November 1 – 14.
