COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado - USA Artistic Swimming wrapped up a successful 2020 Coaches College and All Star Camp in Geneva, Ohio this Sunday at Spire Institute. The event allowed athletes representing all four zones to train with an elite lineup of coaches that included Andrea Fuentes, Bill May, Megan Azebu, Camielle Albrecht and Monica Velazquez-Stiak.
Athletes were challenged not just on technical ability but also on how to incorporate emotional expression and artistry into their artistic swimming training. Exercises, drills and stretches centered around how to increase synchronization, musicality and flexibility. Separated by age group, the swimmers learned a portion of a routine and practiced on land and water before the showcase at the end of the weekend.
The event wasn’t just for athletes. Coaches gathered to continue their own education, facilitate conversation and to hear from the nation’s best. The dedicated contingent of 32 coaches left the weekend feeling inspired with new tools to take back to their respective clubs.
For many, this was the first opportunity to be able to connect with others in the artistic swimming community since the COVID-19 outbreak. An event of this kind was no small feat, CEO Adam Andrasko was in attendance and was proud of the work and preparation done to ensure the event ran safely and smoothly.
“While there were challenges, our safety protocols were tested and proved successful in providing a safe training environment for our athletes and coaches. The virus will continue to challenge us throughout 2021, but the success of this event gave us hope and demonstrated how we can continue to host local, regional and national events in the year ahead of us,” Andrasko said.
“We were honored to welcome coaches and athletes from all zones to this year’s Coaches College and All-Star Camp. The attendees were not only excited to learn, but also overjoyed to be able to see each other in person again,” Shari Darst, Education Director, said. “Overall, the event was very successful and we already cannot wait for next year. We want to extend our sincerest thank you to everyone who participated as well as our instructors.”
