The Artistic Swimming competition at the Pan American Games Lima 2019 started on July 28. Throughout the two days of competition USA Synchro's National Team will compete in the Duet and Team Technical and Free events. The U.S. currently sits in third in both the Duet and Team Technical events.
2016 Olympian Anita Alvarez and duet partner Ruby Remati were the first USA Synchro athletes in the water for the Duet Technical event. Their routine to "It's Oh So Quiet" by Bjork earned them a score of 84.7365 which puts them in third place. Canada took the top score in the technical duet event with a score of 89.3343 while Mexico is sitting in second with a 86.3328.
The U.S. also competed in the Team Technical event. Sticking with the routine to "It's Raining Men" the team earned an 84.1447. The team currently sits in third with Canada taking the top spot with an 89.9398, and Mexico in silver position with an 86.2910. This was only the second time the team has swam to this routine in competition in 2019.
The Freestyle events will take place on July 31. Duets will start at 1 p.m. ET and Teams will begin at 8:30 p.m. ET. Click here for the full schedule. This event serves as an Olympic qualifier with the winner punching its ticket to the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
