The 18th FINA World Championships have taken over Gwangju, South Korea, and kicked off competition today. The Yeomju Gymnasium will host all of the artistic swimming events from July 12-20.
Only 10 gold medals will be awarded at the World Championships, but two spots for Tokyo 2020 are up for grabs. The top two placements in the team event, excluding the countries that have already qualified, will punch their ticket to Tokyo 2020.
USA Synchro athletes began competition with the duet technical event. Anita Alvarez and Ruby Remati placed 12th and secured their spot in finals. Here is the remaining schedule of artistic swimming events.
