PHOTO GALLERY: U.S. Masters Athletes Earn Medals at 18th FINA World Masters Championships

GWANGJU, South Korea – USA Synchro would like to recognize the 11 athletes from clubs across the country who competed in the 18th FINA World Masters Championships. After a week of competition, athletes from the U.S. earned seven medals. Read more about their accomplishments below. 


In the 70-79 age group solo event, Nancy Weiman of Redwood Empire earned a gold medal after coming from behind in the tech solo event. Her final score was a 113.0066.  

Three American athletes were represented in the 60-69 solo event, but it was Sue Baross Nesbitt of the Unsyncables of La Mirada who successfully defended her 2017 gold medal. Nesbitt’s final score was a 134.0667. Nesbitt’s teammate, Bonnie Lynn Spivey was awarded a silver medal with a total score of 128.6266, and Redwood Empire athlete Christine Schroeder placed 6th with a score of 117.3733. 

In the 40-49 solo age division, Ramapo Aqua swimmer Anna Kondic placed 12th in the world with a score of 100.9266. 

In the 30-39 solo age division it Unsyncable athlete Barb Nesbitt who was able to capture the gold medal with a score of 146.6600. 


Nancy Weiman and Christine Schroeder were back in the water for the duet competition. The duo earned a silver medal in the 60-69 age division with a score of 112.3133. 

In the 40-49 age group duets, Santa Clara athletes Bianca and Sonja Van Der Velden earned their gold medal with a score of 151.7667. 

Hoping to defend their 2017 gold medal, Unsyncables Barb Nessbit and Teresa Liccardo were back in the pool for the 30-39 age division duet. Ultimately, the pair finished in silver position with a score of 151.9734. 

Mixed Duet 

In the 40-49 age group Mixed Duet event, it was the MAC Synchro Masters duo of Jason Amos and Lucie Svrinova that emerged victorious. The pair won gold with a score of 128.3600.
