LEWISVILLE, Texas – Synchronized swimmers from the Santa Clara Aquamaids, New Canaan Y Aquianas, La Mirada Aquabelles and Optima Synchro earned spots on the podium Saturday at the U.S. Junior and 13-15 National Championships.
The championships conclude Sunday with junior duet and team finals and 13-15 team finals. The final phase of trials for the U.S. 13-15 National Team also will be held Sunday. Up to 12 athletes will be named to the team.
Santa Clara’s Nicole Dzurko won gold in the junior solo final Saturday, finishing with 155.0496 points. Optima Synchro’s Lindi Schroeder was second at 149.9601, and Camryn Carrasco of Santa Clara was third at 148.7325.
Santa Clara’s Claire Kim and Chiara Steele won two medals in the 13-15 division as they went 1-2 in the solo final, with Kim edging her teammate for gold. Kim finished with 143.0019 points to Steele’s 142.9973. Olivia Li of New Canaan won bronze with 140.0469 points.
La Mirada’s Megumi Field and Abigail Kartzinel teamed up to win the 13-15 duet final with 144.1827 points. Steele and Marilyn Weaver won silver (143.6051) and Kim and Yujin Chang were third (141.6965).
