CANCELLED 2020 US Masters Championship

Henderson, Nevada

Oct. 15 - 18, 2020

Master Athletes,

USA Artistic Swimming regrets to announce the cancellation of the 2020 U.S. Masters Championship scheduled for October 15-18, 2020. The rise in Coronavirus cases across the country has created what we feel is an unsafe environment to hold an event of this caliber. USA Artistic Swimming Events and Membership Director, Baylee Robinson said the risk associated with travel, large groups, and the inability for many teams to access pools led to this difficult decision.

"USA Artistic Swimming’s most important role is to provide a safe and supportive environment to enjoy our sport," Robinson said. "That has been the guiding principle and will continue to be. We recognize the impact this season has had on all our members and clubs. With the growing concern over the lasting impact of COVID-19 we decided this to be the best option moving forward."

Before the decision was made to cancel this event, we surveyed our Master’s members and clubs. The survey had responses from over 200 athletes, coaches, and club directors. Many have not been able to return to the pool for training, and with the event three months out, we believe our clubs would not have adequate time to train based on these responses. We will work closely with the City of Las Vegas and the City of Henderson to find a way to bring the event back to Nevada in the future.

We still want to offer our master’s athletes a chance to compete during what would have originally been the scheduled championship.  USAAS and the Master’s Committee have created a few unique event opportunities for you to participate in.  All events will be free to participate in as long as you are a current member of USAAS. Below is a list of events we will host, and more detailed information will be released soon:

  • Artistic Swimming Trivia Night: Friday, October 16, 2020. This event will be for all master athletes to create a trivia team and participate in. We will have history questions, sport specific questions and much more.
  • Skills challenges: Date: TBD. We will post a series of schedule competitions for master athletes to compete in. These could be land or water skills and will be judges by USAAS Certified Judges.
  • Speakers: Thursday, October 15, 2020. We are searching for topics you want to know more about! Send us your ideas and we will create an evening of presentations based on what you need.
  • Surprise: We have one final opportunity we will announce soon for our athletes to participate in.

We recognize that the cancellation of this event may stop you from joining USA Artistic Swimming this season. We hope that you will consider renewing or purchasing a new membership. Your USA Artistic Swimming membership purchase does more than just allow you to compete at an event.  With the purchase of a USAAS membership, you get to join our team. Memberships bring together athletes, coaches, judges, and volunteers with the same goal in mind, grow the sport of artistic swimming.  As a member you are supporting our newest athletes all the way to our National Team Programs.  You support the best coaches and officials our sport has to offer. We encourage you to continue to support USA Artistic Swimming with the purchase of your 2020 – 2021 membership.

The National Office and National Team are here to help you, and we will continue to do so through these difficult times. We want to apologize to all the athletes and coaches who started this year with the goal of competing at the Masters National Championship.  We know how much time and energy goes into preparing a routine for a National event. We are heartbroken for the athletes who work incredibly hard to compete at this event, and we look forward to hosting you again in 2021.
