Last weekend was the final part of the NEXT Gen Series which in honor of Halloween, was Halloween themed! Skaters from across the country tuned in virtually to learn new strength and conditioning exercises as well as new technical points to help them in their upcoming practices and competitions.
Day one was filled with a ton of Halloween spirit! We were joined by polar bears, aliens, mister chief, witches, pirates, and many more. First, athletes took part in a dryland training held by Fei Yang who is the Head Coach of Garden State Speedskating Club located in New Jersey. The dryland training consisted of challenging exercises that used balance discs and used mini pumpkins as hurdles! We also had a social media webinar with Marketing Coordinator, Andrea DiCristoforo where she shared tips with us on Do’s and Don’ts for posting pictures on social media during COVID-19.
On day two, Next Gen athletes had a strength and conditioning session with Rafal Kanazecki who is strength and conditioning coach, fitness director, and personal trainer at The Gym Maplewood in New Jersey. During the session Rafal had the skaters focus on mobility and strength movements which will translate to ice. The athletes were also challenged to do as many Goblet Squats they could do in 30 seconds while holding a pumpkin!
The Next Gen Camp Series was a great virtual success! With times being uncertain, the Next Gen Series created an avenue where athletes can still grow and move closer to their goals with the help of their coaches and friends from all across the country. We look forward to seeing everyone, as well as new faces, next year!
