The new Kearns Athlete Training and Element Event Center is hosting a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018.

With the planning and execution of several organizations – including US Speedskating, the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation, Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center, Salt Lake County and the State of Utah – the $12 million, 36,700 sq. ft. multi-use Kearns Athlete Training and Element Event Center is a model of cooperation and innovation between government, non-profit, sport and community partners.

The Kearns Athlete Training and Element Event Center will secure state-of-the-art training space and US Speedskating’s permanent home in Kearns, create a new wing of fitness space for Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center, and serve as a destination for community and corporate meetings.

The ribbon cutting event will feature speakers including Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation CEO Colin Hilton, US Speedskating Executive Director Ted Morris, Salt Lake County Mayor and US Congressman-elect Ben McAdams, Utah House Rep. Eric Hutchings and Kearns Oquirrh Park Fitness Center Chair Laurie Stringham.

The ribbon cutting will be held at 5658 S. Cougar Lane in the conference room of the Kearns Athlete Training and Element Event Center next to the Utah Olympic Oval.

Additionally, the event will celebrate and recognize a new 30 year long-term Utah Olympic Oval operating lease agreement with an option for extensions between the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation and the Oquirrh Recreation and Parks District.
