World Cup sessions began today at the Sportboulevard in Dordrecht, Netherlands. During the second leg of the 2017-18 ISU World Cup circuit, medals were awarded for the men’s and women’s 500m and 1500m. In addition, the women’s 3000m semifinals and the men’s 5000m relay semifinals concluded the day of racing.

Three-time Olympic medalist J.R. Celski (Federal Way, Wash.) finished eighth overall in the men’s 1500m standings, skating to a second-place finish in the 1500m B Final (2.22.058). It marked the second B Final Celski has reached this season, as he finished third in the men’s 1000m B Final last weekend at World Cup Budapest.

The two-time Olympian just missed the A Final, finishing third in his semifinal heat in 2:10.937 after working his way from eighth to third in the final four laps. After two World Cups, Celski sits 12th overall in the men’s 1500m overall standings.

The men’s 5000m relay team of Celski, John-Henry Krueger (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Thomas Hong (Laurel, Md.) and Aaron Tran (Federal Way, Wash.) finished third in the semifinals by the length of a skate, crossing the line just behind the Netherlands and Canada relay teams. The men skated 6:44.349 and will skate in the B Final.

The women’s 3000m relay team of Jessica Kooreman (Melvindale, Mich.), Lana Gehring (Glenview, Ill.), Kristen Santos (Fairfield, Conn.) and Kimi Goetz (Flemington, N.J.) finished fourth in their semifinal heat in 4:13.281 to advance to the B Final.

Celski also skated in the men’s 500m quarterfinal but did not advance. For the women, Kooreman raced in the women’s 1500m semifinals and Maame Biney (Reston, Va.) skated in the women’s 500m quarterfinals. Neither skater advanced to their respective subsequent round.
