U.S. Skaters Head To Calgary For Third ISU World Cup Of Season

The U.S. long track speed skating squad travels to the Calgary Olympic Oval for the third installment of the 2017-18 ISU World Cup circuit. Racing in Calgary begins on Friday, December 1 and concludes on Sunday, December 3. Events on the schedule are: 500m, 1000m, 1500m, Team Pursuit, Mass Start, women’s 3000m and men’s 5000m.

The long track roster in Calgary features a veteran group, with nine of the 14 skaters touting Olympic experience.

Team USA is returning to North America after competing on back-to-back weekends in Europe. The team won a total of five medals – three silver, two bronze. Heather Bergsma (High Point, N.C.) and Joey Mantia (Ocala, Fla.) each won a pair of medals over the first two weekends in Heerenveen, Netherlands and Stavanger, Norway, and the trio of Mitch Whitmore (Waukesha, Wisc.), Jonathan Garcia (Houston, Texas) and Mantia took third in the Team Sprint event at World Cup Stavanger.

Following World Cup Calgary, the U.S. team will return to Salt Lake City, Utah for the fourth World Cup on Dec. 8-10.
