No cutting corners in sports

The scary memory of a truck hitting a small car at a toll plaza en route to Pune was all gone when 28-time inline speed skating world champion Joey Mantia entered Ahmedabad and received a rousing welcome amid deafening cheers from 30-odd skaters, coaches and doting parents. After successfully completing training camps in Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai, the 29-year-old champion from the US is training kids and professionals at DPS Bopal in the last leg of his India tour. In an exclusive interview with Mirror after an exhausting morning sessions with the skaters, Joey spoke on aspects ranging from his passion for inline skating since childhood to his ice skating gold dream in the forthcoming Winter Olympics. He also shared his work ethics, impressions of first ever visit to India, Ahmedabad and its food.
