Jan. 25, 2015, 3:30 p.m. (ET)

SALT LAKE CITY, UT -- It was a thrilling weekend for April Shin and Thomas Hong, US Speedskating’s 2015 Junior National Champions. Jacqueline Chen and You Young Chea rounded out the ladies’ podium on Sunday, placing second and third respectively, while Aaron Tran and Shaner LeBauer took second and third on the men’s side. These athletes have qualified to compete at the Junior World Championships in Osaka, Japan March 7-9.

“The junior skaters came out in force this weekend and put on an awesome show,” said Utah Olympic Oval’s Speedskating Program Manager, Mike Kooreman. “I am looking forward to seeing their results at the Junior World Championships this year and excited for the future of the sport.”

2010 Olympic Medalist Katherine Reutter will be coaching the Junior World Team this season. "The team is very well prepared to skate internationally,” explained Reutter. “For the men, if I see their strengths and skill sets, they are very comparable. They each made the team off their ability to race. With the ladies, I am very impressed by their speed and technique. Junior Championships helped sharpen their racing skills."
