Brittany Bowe and Heather Richardson are going to have to clear some extra space in their suitcases to bring home all of their new hardware. This weekend was a huge triumph for Team USA, who collectively captured seven medals at the World Single Distance Championships in Heerenveen, Netherlands.
Bowe earned two gold medals from the 1000m and 1500m, and silver in the 500, while Richardson won gold for her performance in the 500, silver in the 1000, and bronze in today’s 1500m.
Bowe is the first American woman to win a 1500m title at the World Single Distance Championships. “I knew if I just executed and stuck to my race plan that I would have a chance to win,” said the new World Champion.
The great American speed skater Shani Davis made a strong comeback, to once again be named the best in the world.
Other notable races included the Mass Start, in which Jeffrey Swider-Peltz finished in 8th place. Maria Lamb finished 20th for the ladies.
