After an exciting and successful weekend at Milwaukee’s Pettit National Ice Center, US Speedskating is proud to announce the 2014-15 Fall World Cup Team for Short Track. This team will take the ice at the first ISU Short Track World Cup of the season, which will take place at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns, Utah, November 7-9. The Team will then compete at ISU Short Track World Cups events in Canada, China and Korea before the end of the year.
“The event turned out really well”, said Short Track National Team Head Coach, Jonathon Cavar. “There was high quality, competitive racing from everyone, and the experience will benefit this group of athletes as they hit the ISU World Cup Circuit. I’m looking forward to getting to know all of these athletes better and seeing where we stand in comparison to the rest of the world as we head toward 2018.”
Leading this weekend’s races on the Ladies side was 2014 Olympian, Emily Scott. “She had one of those standout performances. She skated with confidence, using her strength and experience to establish herself as one of the best in the US” added Cavar. Scott will be joined on the team by 2014 Olympian Jessica Smith and three-time World Cup Medalist, Tamara Frederick. Joining these veterans on the team are first-time World Cup Athletes Kimberly Goetz, Katherine Ralston and Jacqueline Chen.
On the men’s side, World Cup Gold Medalist, John Henry Krueger led the way with an impressive performance. "John Henry demonstrated great skill and experience, beating out a talented group of athletes” commented Cavar. John Henry’s older brother, Cole, will also be on the team. A group of up-and-coming athletes will be joining the Krueger brothers including, Ryan Pivirotto, Keith Carroll Jr., Soo An Yoo and Jake Powers. “All of these guys had exceptional performances over the weekend. It shows that we have some really strong young athletes that have the skills needed to excel at a very high level,” added Cavar.
US Speedskating would like to thank the Staff and Local Organizing Committee at Milwaukee’s Pettit National Ice Center for their hospitality. “It was a great, well-executed and safe event to kick-off our season,” said Events and Programs Director, Marion Wohlrab. “The LOC did a fantastic job in offering a great race environment and the video replay ensured a fair competition for all the athletes. The Great Lakes Short Track Meet held in the morning showcased some young, talented skaters which is always great to see.”
