U.S. Paralympics Nordic Nationals

World Para Nordic Skiing NorAm & 2019 U.S. Paralympics Nordic Nationals 

Date: January 3-5, 2019

Location: Craftsbury, VT 

World Para Nordic Skiing NorAm & U.S. Paralympics Nordic Nationals will bring together the most competitive group of Nordic sit skiers in the U.S. to compete for National titles in Paralympic Nordic skiing events.  It is also the largest gathering of para Nordic skiers nation-wide, so we aim to attract many participants at all levels of the para Nordic ski community together for a fun weekend of racing.  This year’s para races will be run in conjunction with U.S. Cross-Country Nationals.  We encourage experienced standing and visually impaired athletes to sign up for and compete in U.S. Cross-Country Nationals*.

*The January 3rd classic 10k/15k will also be eligible for WPNS points and U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing Nationals Championship.

PM Cross-Country Middle Race

Sit ski: 5k W, 7.5k M

Standing/VI: 10k W/15k M Classic (integrated into U.S. Cross Country Nationals field, eligible for WPNS points)

Novice standing/VI: 5k Classic (not eligible for WPNS points, national championships or team qualification)

Jan 4 – Training *Classic sprint for U.S. Cross-Country Nationals, option for standing and visually impaired classes. This is not eligible for WPNS points.

Jan 5 – 9 AM Cross Country Sprint (800m) *Freestyle for standing/VI

Jan 6 – Departure

Jan 7 – Departure for athletes going with USPN to World Cup in Sweden


Craftsbury Outdoor Center, Craftsbury Vermont


Registration fee is $25 per race for sit skiers and standing and VI athletes wishing to compete in the novice race. Standing and visually impaired athletes who wish to compete for WPNS points will need to register for races on the U.S. Nationals website: https://craftsburynationals.com/

*Note that the only race that will be eligible for WPNS points is the classic 10k/15k on January 3.

Competition License

A competition license is not required to participate in these events, but those wishing to qualify for Teams (by scoring WPNS points) will need to have a World Para Nordic Skiing (WPNS) competition license.  Instructions for securing a competition license can be found here: http://www.teamusa.org/US-Paralympics/Sports/Nordic-Skiing/IPC-Licensing

Standing and visually impaired athletes who want to compete for WPNS points (recommended for established and experienced skiers) will need to have a U.S. Ski & Snowboard competition license (more information provided at this link).


Being classified is not necessary to participate in these events, but it is required to compete for medals in U.S. National Championships and to score WPNS points or to qualify for any teams with U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing.

Accommodation + Food

Lodging will be at the Sunset Motor Lodge in Morrisville, VT, about a 25 minute drive from the venue.  Lodging costs will be $60 per person/day.  If you prefer a single room, that may be possible and your rate will be $120/day.  There are several food options within walking distance from the hotel, including a restaurant at the hotel.  Food costs will be the responsibility of athletes.

Getting to Craftsbury

Burlington International Airport (BTV) is the closest option to Craftsbury and we will be providing transportation from the airport on January 1 and back to the airport on January 6.  Athletes who will be continuing on to the World Cup in Ostersund Sweden will depart on January 7 and transport will be provided.  Athletes who wish to arrive on January 2 and depart after racing on January 5 will be on their own for transportation.

Ground Transportation

U.S. Paralympics Nordic Skiing will provide transportation to U.S. athletes to and from training and racing.
